Back in 2011 I received an email inviting me to join an exciting new social media platform. That platform was Google Plus. At first I didn’t really get much out of the platform and after a brief play around with circles and other features forgot about it.

Then about a year later I got serious about my writing and discovered a writing community on Google Plus. For the first few months I lurked around, reading and digesting all the information on writing I could. It was here that I first heard about the wonderful Creative Penn podcast, and Self Publishing Podcast. These have been instrumental in my writing journey.

It was from Google Plus that I first discovered Nanowrimo, a yearly event that changed everything and it was on Google plus that I started to enter small competitions, including the one that would eventually merge with my first nanowrimo attempt and ultimately give birth to the universe containing the Tration Empire where all of my stories take place.

In the last year or so I’ve drifted away from Google Plus, but it is still one of my go to places to visit when after writing advice or something a little bit different. I’m going to miss it when it disappears later this year.

Did you ever use Google Plus? What will you miss about it? Let me know in the comments below.
